Soha Bokhari – Talking Patterns
For task 2 I wanted to focus on seeing patterns and textures throughout my daily life. My inspiration came from travelling from Milton Keynes to London and seeing the way some patterns changed between the two cities. Underneath are some of my sketches I drew, showing the step-by-step journey and the patterns I saw.
Many of my drawings involved shapes and lines, all reflected from looking at train tracks, tunnels, seats and many more. I used different medias to explore patterns. I used pencils, fine liners, colour crayons, felt tip pens and photoshop. I thought using these medias were effective as they highlighted the patterns and textures. I worked best when using sharp pencils and fine liners as it allowed me to go into more detail in some areas.
Overall, I have found this task effective in understanding the way I see patterns. My next stage will be to explore how I can incorporate these patterns and textures using embroidery in my textile pieces.

Overall I believe you have understood the brief and have met the requirements of creating patterns. The lines in your drawings respond very well to your theme of train tracks showing you have a good understanding and the media of pencil and pen have given a good contrasting effect. you have clearly looked into depth on your theme due to incorporating other factors of a train (not just the tracks) and have also used the skill of photoshop to show further development of your drawings. This shows creativity yet can also help you later on throughout your course in designing ideas efficiently for embroidery.
Although you have shown 2 medias perhaps you could have used more of a range to show texture and how this could perhaps effect the look of lines and patterns. This also could have helped your understanding on how different medias can give completely different outcomes which could have come in use with your pattern designs of the tracks and seats. You perhaps could have been more 3D with your work, as you’re focusing on lines, wire would be a good way to develop show your ideas and give inspiration for future designs. I also think you could have experimented more with the size and shaping of your lines.
Overall this is a successful project but there could have been more experimentation involved as well as visual development in a few of your drawings.
